About / Method
An experience can change how a place is inhabited.
HEDONE
A practice of sensing, relation and encounter.
HEDONE works at the intersection of ritual, sensory experience design, performance and place. The practice creates conditions in which participants can encounter themselves, one another and their surroundings with unusual intensity and attention.
The work began with questions of pleasure, sensuality and reconnection with the body, and has expanded into site-responsive experiences concerned with transformation, resilience, hospitality, landscape, myth and belonging.
How we work
Listen first. Design second.
Each commission begins with the emotional architecture of the place: what is already present, what is missing, what should be remembered, and what kind of relationship the experience can make possible.
From there, HEDONE develops a sensory dramaturgy using only the materials the encounter calls for—voice, silence, movement, scent, texture, landscape, food, water, darkness, light, story or collective participation.
Recognition
Experiment is part of the method.
The original HEDONE interactive podcast received Experiment of the Year recognition from Center for Podcasting in 2023.
